Host family support

Help is only a phone call away – EF staff are available to you 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. This will be detailed by your local office prior to hosting.

We boast nearly 50 years of experience of managing host families and your local accommodation coordinators are available 24 hours a day, seven days per week if you have any questions or concerns. Our students must comply with all programme rules and our staff will ensure they follow these while with your family.

• Prepare the room before your students arrive by making the bed and ensuring it's tidy. This small gesture shows your care and makes their experience pleasant.
• If the student has a new roommate, give them a heads-up about the new student. This way, both can clean up and warmly welcome the new roommate.
• Ensure the bathroom is neat. A clean bathroom makes a positive first impression and encourages them to maintain it during their stay.
• Foster English use at home to enhance language learning.
• Keep personal financial matters and room/board payments confidential to avoid making students uncomfortable.
• Give a tour of your home, including their bedroom, bathroom, and other accessible areas.
• Introduce them to other family members and roommates.
• Show how to use appliances; don't assume they know.
• Familiarize them with house rules (laundry, meals, internet usage, curfew, etc.).
• Agree on laundry access and clarify they're responsible for their supplies.
• Assign bathroom and bedroom cleaning to them; communal areas can be managed through assigned chores.
• Maintain open communication for a successful hosting experience. Your friendly approach will set a positive tone.
